Invictus feels a bit like a mix between Zeitgeist: Dystopia and Anti Terrestial Black Metal. It is raw and full of aggression on the one hand and enriched by beautiful atmospheres and accomplished song writing on the other hand. Like every other release of theirs Invictus surely delivers pure and evil black metal of the highest quality with astonishing musicianship.
In 2019 MAGOTH appeared first on my black metal playlist with their great "Zeitgeist: Dystopia" album. And now they return with another monumental album. "Invictus" is heavy and grim, the album spreads timeless black spirits. Beyond all icy brutality there is a melodic base and fundamental majesty in the songs. "Ikaros", "Ascension" or "Entering the Cavern of Grief" are catchy black raw diamonds every black metal maniac should celebrate!
Favorite track: Ikaros.
By far the best album of the genre in 2021. The most powerful and emotional blend of death and black metal I've heard in years. The conceptual framework of the record is also quite remarkable. Nikitash
I don't really like black metal much. But... this is pitched far enough from the archetypes of the genre that I can actually enjoy it as the beautiful piece of progressive metal that it is. Lethologica82
